Run for NY is an educational walkthrough of how to get on the ballot in New York State. It is not legal advice and not affiliated with any board of elections, party, or candidate. These notes describe what the site stores about visitors and contributors.
What we collect from visitors
- Learner progress. If you work through the interactive course, the site stores an opaque learner ID in your browser plus your progress (which modules you finished and your selections). The learner ID is not tied to a name, email, or any personal detail.
- Aggregate diagnostics. The server logs basic request information (URL, status code, timing) for debugging. No identifying profile is built.
What we don’t collect
No public accounts. No tracking cookies. No third-party analytics. No advertising pixels.
Staff and reviewers
A small set of internal reviewers can sign in to mark guidance facts as reviewed. They sign in with GitHub OAuth. We retain their GitHub login and email inside a session cookie so the review queue knows who decided what; this is necessary for accountability of guidance edits. Sessions expire on a rolling basis.
Third parties
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces used on the site. Your browser fetches font files directly from Google when a page loads.
- GitHub handles OAuth sign-in for internal reviewers only. Public visitors are never redirected to GitHub.
- Anthropic Claudeis sometimes used by authors to draft course content. The API isn’t called from your browser; visitor queries are not sent to any LLM.
Where the data lives
On a managed Postgres database hosted by Railway. The site itself is hosted by Railway. Both are subject to their own provider terms.
Asking us to delete your data
Learner progress is keyed to a random ID in your own browser — clear your browser data for this site and the association is gone. For anything else, email [email protected].
Not legal advice
Ballot-access rules change. Confirm anything time-sensitive with your county board of elections before you act on it.
